How to Play — Polynomial PickUp

      Objective

Pick up polynomial graphs from the top of the pile and correctly identify them to score points!

      Setup

      • 2–4 players take turns
      • Choose a difficulty level (1–4)
      • Each game has 3 rounds
      • Each round has 15 + 10×level polynomials

      How to Play

      1. View the graph: Polynomials are stacked on an xy-plane (−10 to 10). Colors show which graphs are on top.
      2. Pick a graph: On your turn, click a graph that's fully visible on top (not covered by another).
      3. Identify it: Select the matching polynomial from the menu (shown in general or factored form).
      4. Score: Correct identification = 1 point! The graph is removed and any graph beneath is revealed.
      5. Wrong pick: If you select a covered graph or wrong polynomial, your turn ends with no points.

      Winning

After 3 rounds, the player with the most points wins! Your score is saved to the level-specific leaderboard.

      Strategy Tips

      • Look carefully at which colors are uninterrupted — those are on top!
      • Higher levels have more complex polynomials and more graphs to track
      • Take your time identifying the polynomial equation

      Detailed Guide — Polynomial PickUp

      Game Overview

Polynomial PickUp is a visual pattern recognition and algebra game where players must identify polynomial functions from their graphs.

      The Playing Field

The game displays a coordinate plane from x = −10 to x = 10 and y = −10 to y = 10. Polynomial graphs are drawn in different colors and layered on top of each other.

      Understanding Layers

Key concept: Graphs drawn later appear on top. When a color line is uninterrupted, that graph is accessible. If a graph's color is "broken" or covered by another color, it's underneath and cannot be picked yet.

      Difficulty Levels

      • Level 1: 25 polynomials per round, up to degree 2 (quadratics)
      • Level 2: 35 polynomials per round, up to degree 4
      • Level 3: 45 polynomials per round, up to degree 6
      • Level 4: 55 polynomials per round, up to degree 8

      Polynomial Forms

The menu shows polynomials in two forms:

      • General form: y = ax^n + bx^(n-1) + ... + c
      • Factored form: y = a(x - r₁)(x - r₂)... (for some polynomials)

      Scoring

Each correct identification earns 1 point. The player with the most points after 3 rounds wins!
